Local Education Reformers Keeping Close Eye On Chicago Teachers Strike

The head of the lndiana Chapter of Democrats for Education Reform says Chicago teachers are making a big mistake by going on strike.
As teachers in the nation’s third largest school district attempt to settle their dispute with the Board of Education over reform, Larry Grau says instead of striking over education reform measures, teachers should be embracing and helping guide the change.
He says there can’t be improvement in schools without change and that the strike goes beyond the old battle lines of Republicans and Democrats.
Grau also comments on the recent Indiana State Teachers Union endorsement of Republican Brent Waltz over Democrat Mary Ann Sullivan.
He also says whether the organization will get involved in the race for Superintendent for Public Instruction between Republican incumbent Tony Bennett and Democratic challenger Glenda Ritz.
